Remote Sensing of Natural Areas: Procedures and Considerations for Assessing Vegetation Composition Change, Land Development, and Erosion

چکیده
Remote sensing can be defined as the acquisition and measurement of data/information on some property(ies) of a phenomenon, object, or material by a recording device not in physical, intimate contact with the feature(s) under surveillance (Short 1997). Scientists utilizing remote sensing are able to collect vast quantities of data quickly and efficiently for rapid analysis. In the last Technical Report, we provided an introduction to how remote sensing can be used for detecting vegetation stress and pollution. Remote sensing can be used for more far-ranging applications. In this report, we will discuss how remote sensing can be used to monitor vegetation changes, land development, and erosion in natural areas. As with stress detection and pollution, the data collected, and the sensors used to collect it, depends primarily on the users purpose for the data.

Application of Remote Sensing in Assessing Land Use Changes in Haraz Watershed
Aims: Land-use change due to human activities is one of the important issues in regional and development planning. The aim of this study was to detect land-use changes using Landsat TM, ETM+, IRS and ASTER satellite imagery. Methodology: In this quasi-experimental study, land-use changes in the Haraz watershed over a 23-year period were evaluated. For this study, images of 1992 TM, ETM + 2002, ...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Water scarcity is currently one of the worldchr('39')s challenges, especially in arid and semi-arid regions; This is because population growth and rising living standards require more food and water. Therefore, excessive use of natural resources has led to the destruction of potential agricultural lands and natural resources. The final process is floods, dust...

Cities are experiencing rapid population growth and consequently extensive urbanization. Land-use/land-cover change is one of the important elements worldwide, which significantly affect the environment. This study aims to describe the emergence of urban heat and cool islands as a result of changes in land-use/land-cover. Land surface temperature over a 32-year period in Isfahan city, Iran was ...

Land use may be regarded as one of the most important factors affecting theenvironment with respect to human activities. So far, destroying the rangelands andchanging them into the waste lands and poor rangelands has been proposed as the mostsignificant variations of land use done by human beings. This paper has been conducted toevaluate the variations of vegetation percentage and land uses in ...
